Three Parisian hotels to discover

© Josée Noiseux
People often ask me about my favourite hotel in Paris. My answer tends to surprise them. To tell you the truth, it depends on the season and on my state of mind, on the neighbourhood I want to explore, and whether I’m feeling more “Right Bank” or “Left Bank”. While writing my book, I took great pleasure in changing hotels frequently. Someone had to do it. I have great memories of a 7-day trip during which I stayed in no fewer than 6 hotels. Unforgettable! Without further ado, here are three Parisian hotels to discover according to your mood of the moment.

If you enjoy carefully decorated and sophisticated hotels – but don’t particularly enjoy emptying your wallet – you’ll love Hotel Thérèse. Perfectly located, just a few steps from the Louvre, L’Opera, and Champs-Élysées, this boutique hotel is a true gem worth discovering. It’s a well-kept secret with charming service.

As you arrive, you’ll immediately notice a sense of elegance and discretion. With an enveloping library corner, a turquoise-hued sitting room, and a lovely breakfast nook nestled under grandiose arches, your stay here is guaranteed to be a delight. I love the immaculate decoration where wood, velvet, and the industrial accents of studded doors and metal panels live in perfect harmony. Fashionistas, this place is for you!

If you prefer animated spots with off-the-wall decoration, a cool and stylish clientele, and affordable prices, Mama Shelter is for you. Located in the 20th arrondissement, just a little outside of the center of Paris, this hipster haunt was created by designer Philippe Starck and will transport you to a modern and communal world.

The space is welcoming and democratic, with long rectangular tables, wall-to-wall graffiti, a baby foot table, a lively restaurant and bar, and DJs in the evenings. From morning to night, this place is buzzing.

I also love the rooftop terrace, a refreshingly green corner perfect for enjoying a cocktail or two. Although minimalist, the rooms are beautiful and comfortable – and most importantly, soundproof.
Note: It takes about 20 minutes to reach the centre of Paris with the 96 bus, which stops right in front of the hotel.

Red velvet chairs, marble stairs, sparkling chandeliers, everything in this Napoleon III-style house – to which designer Bambi Sloan added a touch of folly – breathes elegance. It’s a picture-perfect recreation of the era of grand balls, where an intimate and sensual atmosphere prevails.
